Inventory accuracy is the percentage of SKUs where the system count matches the physical count. If your 3PL’s records say 500 units and a cycle count finds 472, that SKU is off. Across a catalog, small discrepancies compound into oversells, stockouts, and reconciliation headaches.
Why Brands Can’t Really Verify It
This is your 3PL’s count checked against your 3PL’s own recount, usually once a quarter after cycle counts. You’re taking the number on faith. From the brand side you never see the count itself. You see the symptoms: an order oversells, or a product reads “out of stock” when you know a pallet shipped to the warehouse last week.
When It Matters Most
Two moments expose it. Receiving, when damaged or miscounted inbound throws the count off (see dock-to-stock time). And selling across channels, where the same physical stock is counted against more than one system. The more places a SKU’s count lives, the more room for drift.
